A motorcyclist died Friday evening after colliding with a vehicle in Mesa, and another motorcyclist was believed to have fled the area, police said.

The first motorcyclist, traveling east on Baseline Road, collided with a vehicle just east of Extension Road, according to Detective Nik Rasheta, Mesa Police Department spokesman.

The adult man was transported to a hospital, where he died of his injuries, police said.

No other injuries were reported.

Officers believe another motorcyclist may have been involved and fled the scene, Rasheta said.

That motorcyclist was described as a heavyset man wearing a leather vest that had bright colors on the back of it and who was riding a bright green-and yellow street motorcycle, according to police.

Baseline Road was shut down from Extension to Vineyard roads during the crash investigation, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Mesa police at 480-644-2211.
