Monsoon storms skirted the east, north  and northwest edges of the Phoenix metro area Monday night, while drenching Tucson and large areas of Pima County.

The National Weather Service in Phoenix said strong storm were moving through the far Southeast Valley around 9:30 a.m., with areas around Queen Creek, Apache Junction and southeast Mesa among those affected, with rain and gusty winds expected.

The storm was moving to the west toward Gilbert and Chandler.

The National Weather Service issued a flood advisory for areas of Southeast Valley, saying some local street flooding could occur after some areas received nearly an inch of rain.

 

 

Earlier, a flood advisory was issued Monday evening around 6:30 p.m. for the New River area north of Phoenix after a heavy thunderstorm moved through the area, dumping nearly an inch of rain has expired, according to the National Weather Service. The advisory expired at 8:30 p.m.

Earlier in the evening, satellite images showed storms also forming in an area near Wickenburg moving toward the Phoenix area.

And  farther north storms also were brewing into Yavapai County, the NWS office in Phoenix said.

Elsewhere, a small stream and urban flood advisory was issued for a large area of Pima County and part of Santa Cruz county in southern Arizona after storms moved through the region.
