The severe weather that swept through the Valley Saturday evening caused several power outages that left thousands of customers in the dark.

But by about 9:30 p.m., some of the power outages had been restored. About 1,000 customers remained without power, mostly in the West Valley.

The largest outage in the Valley was in Sun City, where nearly 2,400 customers lost power just before 5:30 p.m., Arizona Public Service said.

The outage was caused by an interruption to a major power line in the area, shutting down power from Camelot Circle to Sun City Boulevard and 111th Avenue to 103rd Avenue, APS said.

As of 9:30 p.m., 310 people in that area were still without power.

About 800 customers continued to be without power in Surprise.

In central Phoenix, more than 1,700 customers lost power just after 6 p.m. when a major power line in the area was interrupted.

The boundary for the outage was from Lynwood to Van Buren streets and 7th to Central avenues, APS said.

At about the same time, power went out for more than 1,800 in another central Phoenix neighborhood from Edgemont Avenue to Brill Street and 7th to 20th streets, APS said.

Power on those areas had been restored as of 9:30 p.m.

Salt River Project reported two small outages, impacting about two dozen customers.
