A Mohave County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team shot and killed a male on Saturday after Mohave County deputies responded to a welfare check for a possibly suicidal subject and he shot at them.
According to a Facebook post from Mohave County Sheriff’s Office, dispatch received a call for a welfare check for a male who was possibly suicidal, and while en route received several calls from neighbors who heard gunshots coming from the home.
According to the post, victims say the male shot at them but they were able to get away without injuries. When deputies arrived, the male was outside the home and “fired his weapon at deputies.” SWAT was then called to the residence and took over the scene.
SWAT and the male both shot at each other, according to the post. He was later found dead inside the home.
The Sheriff’s Office did not identify the male or give his age.
The deputies involved have been placed on administrative leave, which is common protocol for this type of incident, the post said. Lake Havasu City Police Department is handling the investigation.
Police said they could not be reached for media inquiries until Monday.
