Two-time defending 5A girls hoops champion Goodyear Millennium’s best returning player Kassidy Dixon is staying home in the Valley to play college basketball.

The 5-9 senior guard announced her verbal commitment to Grand Canyon University via Twitter Monday.

Dixon is ranked 31st in The Republic’s Arizona high school girls basketball 2020-21 Elite 50 girls basketball preseason players rankings

“I chose GCU because of the family aspect,” Dixon said. “It’s all bigger than basketball to me, and I believe that GCU won’t just help me with my sport, but will also help me become a good person.”

Dixon also received an offer from Mississippi Valley State, plus she drew interest from Adams State, Langston University and Virginia Union.

After being a sixth player off the bench, Dixon’s tenacious defense and stellar shooting moved her up to a starting role halfway through last season. Dixon traded that starting spot with former Millennium shooting guard Amoret Maxwell, who transferred to Phoenix PHH Prep in May

Dixon was a major contributor in her first full year as a varsity player for the Lady Tigers last season. She was their fourth-best scorer at 7.3 points per game, shot team-highs 56% from the field and 45% from 3, plus added 3.5 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.5 steals.
