A man suspected in a pair of bank robberies was arrested Saturday at a Phoenix hotel by federal agents and local police.

Members of the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force and Phoenix police officers responded about 11 a.m. to a hotel in the area of 4700 E. Thomas Road about a person who matched the suspect’s description from two bank robberies on Friday, according to a Phoenix police news release.

Michael K. Hutchins, 57, was arrested on suspicion of committing the two bank robberies.

The first robbery occurred just after 12:45 p.m. at a Wells Fargo bank in the area of 3000 N. Central Ave.

Witnesses reported an unknown suspect demanded money and passed a note to an bank employee, according to the news release. The employee complied, and the suspect fled prior to officers’ arrival.

The second robbery occurred about 2 p.m. at a Chase bank in the area of 3000 N. 24th St. The robbery occurred similarly to the first robbery, according to police.

No weapon was seen, and no one was injured.

The investigations are ongoing.

Hutchins was booked into a Maricopa County jail on suspicion of robbery. He is being held without bond.
