Arizona Cardinals President Michael Bidwill was named grand marshal of the 48th Desert Financial Fiesta Bowl Parade on Thursday.
Bidwill will join a list of celebrities with Arizona ties who have been the grand marshal of past Fiesta Bowl Parades, which includes Charles Barkley, Randy Johnson and Kerri Strug.
“Just looking at the list of community leaders who have been asked to do this in previous years, I was blown away when I got the call,” Bidwill said. “It’s a true honor.”
The Fiesta Bowl Committee, along with Bidwill, made the announcement at the Ziegler Fiesta Bowl Museum in Scottsdale.
The parade will take place in central Phoenix on Saturday, Dec. 29, three days prior to the Fiesta Bowl.
Bidwill will have a tough act to follow. Shane Doan, last year’s grand marshal, rode through the parade route on a horse. Fortunately for Bidwill, he has some prior experience.
“I was the grand marshal for the St. Patrick’s Day parade a few years ago,” Bidwill said. “I won’t be wearing my kilt, but somebody said I could borrow (Doan’s) horse.”
The Playstation will be played on New Year’s Day at State Farm Stadium.
