The victim, 18, was found late Saturday evening.

A dive team recovered the body of an 18-year-old Mesa man from Lake Mary near Flagstaff late Saturday night, the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office released Sunday.

The victim, Kevin Anaya of Mesa, was seen swimming near the boat ramp Saturday around 3:30 p.m. when witnesses said he went under the murky water, according to the sheriff’s office.

Several bystanders assisted a sheriff’s office patrol volunteer, who was in the area searching for Anaya. The teen was foundĀ 100 feet from shore in water more than 10 feet deep.

Several agencies responded, including the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue, and they were aided by multiple bystanders who provided the use of their boats, the office said.

Anaya’s body was found around 9:30 p.m., the office said. The case remains under investigation.
