Mesa police shot and injured a man who threatened to light a bomb Tuesday morning, and technicians were trying to diffuse an unknown device found at the scene.
Nearby Lincoln Elementary was closed, and any arriving students were being held “in a modified lockdown until further notice,” according to Det. Nik Rasheta, a Mesa police spokesman.
Police were called to a home in the 800 block of south Sirrine at 4:30 a.m. on reports of a man violating a protection order who was “threatening to light a bomb,” Rasheta said.
“Responding officers located the suspect and, during their contact, perceived an imminent threat, and the suspect was shot,” Rasheta said.
The man was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries. No officers were harmed in the shooting.
