A man was in critical condition after being shot several times while in his vehicle at a west Phoenix intersection, authorities said.

The shooter, armed with a rifle, approached the vehicle near 91st Avenue and Buckeye Road just after 9 p.m. Thursday and began firing, according to Phoenix police.

The man was shot in the torso, the Phoenix Fire Department said.

Several witnesses saw the suspect walk up to the vehicle, which was stopped at 91st Avenue and Illini Street.

The victim was able to leave his vehicle and reach a residence near 9200 W. Raymond St., according to Sgt. Mercedes Fortune, Phoenix police spokesman.

Phoenix Fire Department spokesman Capt. Larry Subervi said a Tolleson Fire Department engine was closest to the scene and treated the man before the Phoenix Fire Department transported him to a hospital.

The victim was in critical condition with several gunshot injuries, Fortune said Friday.

Officers searched the area but have made no arrests.

Police have no viable suspect description at this time, Fortune said.

Anyone with information was asked to contact the Phoenix Police Department.
