Phoenix police are investigating a shooting that left a man seriously injured early Sunday.

The shooting happened at a 7-Eleven convenience store near 27th Avenue and Indian School Road at about 1:45 a.m.

The victim and the shooter exchanged gunfire in the parking lot of the store, according to a Phoenix police spokesman. The shooter then fled on foot. The victim tried to leave the area in a car but crashed in a Shell gas station’s parking lot across the street.

The Phoenix Fire Department took the victim to a nearby hospital in “extremely critical” condition.

No additional information was immediately released. Officials said the investigation is ongoing.
