A man was shot and killed by Avondale police after he pointed a gun at officers Saturday night, according to authorities.
Shortly after 8 p.m. Avondale police responded to report of a subject with a gun at a residence near 107th Avenue and Thomas Road, sad Officer Tiffany Smith, a Glendale police spokeswoman.
Upon arrival, Smith said officers safely removed several occupants from the home, while a man remained on the back patio with a gun.
Police tried to a negotiate with the man for a time, she said. But then he pointed his firearm at the officers. Fearing for his life, an Avondale officer fired his weapon, she said.
The man was transported to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries where he later died.
No officers were injured in the incident, Smith said.
No other details were immediately available as the case was ongoing.
Glendale police, Smith said, is handling the investigation and detectives were working Sunday morning to notify next of kin.
