Officials arrested a 26-year-old man on suspicion of killing a 59-year-old man he was in a relationship with and leaving the body in a house for two weeks, Peoria police said.

Christopher Jones admitted to assaulting and killing the man during an interview with investigators, police said.

Police received a call at around 5 p.m., Tuesday from a woman saying she entered her brother’s home in north Peoria to check on him because no one had heard from him for several weeks. When she entered the home, she found a man’s body in a bedroom on the second floor of the residence.

The man appeared to have trauma to his head and an electrical cord wrapped around his neck. He had been dead for approximately two weeks in the home, police said.

Investigators discovered that the man was in a relationship with Jones, who lived at the residence but was not home when officers responded to the call, police said. There was a history of domestic violence calls at the home involving Jones and the victim, who hadn’t been identified as of Thursday evening.

It was not immediately clear whether Jones had still been residing at the home after the man was killed and his body was left there.

Detectives on Wednesday located and arrested Jones, who was booked into the Fourth Avenue jail on murder charges.

Police said it is believed to be an isolated incident and that there were no outstanding suspects or threats to public safety.
