A man was found on a roadway with serious injuries early Friday morning near north 28th Drive and Peoria Avenue in Phoenix. 

Police responded to reports of gunshots being fired at around 3:30 a.m. at the location, according to police spokesperson Sgt. Mercedes Fortune. 

Officers arrived on scene and found a man with serious injuries from a possible collision. 

However, officers did not find any evidence in the area around the man to indicate that a shooting had occurred, Fortune said. 

The man was taken to a hospital by Phoenix Fire Department personnel.

However, hospital staff found the man had several gunshot injuries once he was examined. The injuries were considered life-threatening, Fortune said. 

Police did not release the man’s name or any additional information.
