Police said a man was critically injured after being shot late Tuesday morning at a south Phoenix apartment complex.
Police said a neighbor found the wounded man lying outside a unit while two children younger than 5 years old were alone inside. It happened near Eighth Street and Dobbins Road around 11:30 a.m.
Sgt. Vince Lewis said the man was taken to a hospital, where he was in critical condition.
Family members have taken custody of the children, who were unharmed, Lewis said.
