The shooting occurred near Loop 202 and Power Road, according to Mesa Police Department spokesperson Detective Brandi George. The woman died at the scene.
George referred to the shooting as “a result of domestic violence” and said it was unknown why it occurred.
The man drove to Mesa police headquarters after the shooting, where he attempted to kill himself, George said.
He was taken to a hospital and was in critical condition as of Sunday, according to George.
Other than to say the woman was 40 years old and the man was 53, police did not release their identities.
