A man shot in Phoenix’s Maryvale neighborhood Saturday evening during a suspected drug deal has died of his injuries, authorities said.

Police responded to a report of a shooting near 69th Avenue and Osborn Road at about 7 p.m., said Sgt. Mercedes Fortune, a Phoenix police spokeswoman.

The victim, about 58-years-old, and his adult son arrived at a residence to meet up with unknown men when police said one of the men shot the victim and another physically assaulted his son.

The men then fled the scene.

The victim was taken to a hospital with critical injuries and later died.

The father and son, police said, were allegedly involved in a drug transaction with the men at the time of the shooting.

A verbal argument started and the suspect shot the victim.

Fortune said the investigation in ongoing and that no suspect description was available Sunday morning.
