A man was arrested on suspicion of accidentally shooting and killing another man while playing with a gun early Friday morning, according to police officials.

Phoenix police spokesman Sgt. Tommy Thompson said 19-year-old Austin Evans showed a gun to his friends in his apartment near Bell Road and Tatum Boulevard shortly after 1:30 a.m.

Shekeedren Bryant, 19, was playing with the gun when it fired and hit Evans, who died at the scene, Thompson said.

Bryant initially fled the apartment, but Thompson said he later returned and admitted his involvement to police.

Bryant was booked into a Maricopa County jail on suspicion of negligent homicide.
