An airman stationed at Luke Air Force Base in Glendale was arrested Tuesday in connection with the disappearance and death of a New Mexico woman, according to the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office.

The suspect, identified as Airman Mark Gooch, 21, who is stationed at Luke AFB, was taken into custody about 9:20 a.m. Tuesday at the base, according to Sean Clements, a media relations chief at Luke Air Force Base.

Sasha Marie Kraus went missing from Farmington, New Mexico, in January and was found dead by a camper near Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument in northern Arizona in February.

Kraus, 27, was a member of the Mennonite community in Farmington. She was last seen leaving her residence about 8 p.m. on Jan. 18 and did not return, according to the Farmington Daily Times.

Detectives learned that Gooch traveled to Farmington and was in the area around the time Kraus went missing, and that he also was near Sunset Crater, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation is ongoing, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
