Scottsdale native Kelly Dodd of “The Real Housewives of Orange County” is facing backlash for sharing a photo of herself on social media wearing a “Drunk Wives Matter” hat at her “amazing bridal shower!!”

Dodd will marry Fox News reporter Rick Leventhal on Oct. 10.

The hat — a riff on the Black Lives Matter movement — was reportedly given to Dodd as a shower gift.

One disappointed fan of the Bravo series, thebravob1tch, responded, “Nah I’m done with this I’m not playing anymore. This is ridiculous and I won’t stand for her making a mockery of the black lives matter movement. She does not care. She is not sorry. She will do this again. Fire her.”

Another IG user, bbfbravo, shared a headline of an article that said, “‘RHOC’ star Kelly Dodd wears ‘Drunk Wives Matter’ hat that mocks Black Lives Matter.”

How Dodd explained the hat

On Tuesday, Oct. 6, Dodd posted a brief explanation of the hat on Instagram.

“Over the weekend at my bridal shower I got lots of gifts and briefly displayed them,” she wrote. “One was a hat with a play on words since I’m about to be a wife, I’m on a Housewives TV show and might be drunk once in a while.”

The original post was “not intended to offend,” she continued, “or make any kind of statement,” adding “Of course I support black lives and racial equality.”

Fifteen minutes later, the reality star shared a screenshot of an IG post by bravoholics saying “I have decided to take a stand alongside Bravoingtogether, Bravohistorian & many other Bravoholics. For the first time in over 10 years, I will not be watching or reporting on the upcoming season of #RHOC because of the vile Kelly Dodd.”

In sharing that post, which mistakenly said the hat said “Drunk Lives Matter,” Dodd wrote, “These are the whack jobs after me!! I am a Mexican and my husband to be @rickleventhal is a Jew!! It says “WIVES” #dumbass.”

Levanthal responded to Dodd’s post, “I love you” with a heart emoji.

Dodd has previously faced backlash over posts on social media mocking the wearing of masks and downplaying the threat of COVID-19.

In a Sept. 7 post on Instagram, she wrote “Putting on a mask to walk ten feet through a restaurant and then taking it off when I got to my table is one of the dumbest things I’ve done in my entire life and I’ve done a lot of dumb things.”
