Disney CEO Bob Iger explains why people may be overreacting to the recent layoff’s within ESPN.
USA TODAY Sports

Longtime NFL reporter and commentator John Clayton confirmed Wednesday that he was among the dozens of recent layoffs at ESPN.

Clayton had worked at ESPN since August 1995, serving as a senior NFL writer for the network’s website and appearing across ESPN’s many platforms to talk pro football. Until Wednesday, he hadn’t tweeted since April 25, around the same time the network began its cutbacks.

He remains host of a daily radio show on KIRO-AM in Seattle, an ESPN affiliate that is not owned by Disney.

Clayton was also the star of one of ESPN’s most iconic commercials.

Referencing the ad after his remarks Wednesday, Clayton said on Twitter he’s “keeping the ponytail.”
