Police were investigating Tuesday evening after a body was found in a Mesa neighborhood near where a 60-year-old woman went missing last week, officials said.

Officers responded at about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday to a suspicious-activity call in the 7200 block of East Arbor Avenue, where the reporting party said there was a body on the premises, police spokeswoman Ashley Rekittke said.

Officials found the body and started an investigation that continued into Tuesday evening.

The neighborhood is the same one that 60-year-old Valarie Fairchild went missing from last week, according to a Mesa police flyer.

Fairchild was last seen near her home in the 7200 block of East Arbor Avenue on Jan. 14, police said.

Her family was concerned for her welfare, police said.

Fairchild did not have a vehicle and was believed to have left on foot, police said.

Police as of Tuesday evening hadn’t confirmed any additional details about the body that was found.

Police are treating the death as suspicious, officials said.
