Authorities on Wednesday were searching for an inmate who walked away from an off-site work crew in Safford, according to the Arizona Department of Corrections.
Officials said Juan Nunley, a minimum-custody inmate, slipped away from the crew near the Safford prison complex’s sewage pond.
Nunley was last accounted for during a crew count at 11 a.m. Wednesday, according to the department. Officials announced his disappearance about 10 p.m.
“ADC has dispatched its chase teams, tracking dog teams and fugitive apprehension unit to find the fugitive inmate,” they said in a statement.
Nunley was serving time following a conviction for theft and trafficking in stolen property.
As of Wednesday night, local authorities were helping to search for him.
Anyone with information should call 911.
