CLOSE

Authorities closed both directions of Interstate 10 in La Paz County because of a man in a car with weapons who is not responding to their commands.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies notified Arizona troopers at 4:27 p.m. Saturday about a suicidal man in possession of numerous weapons who has made threats of violence, the Arizona Department of Public Safety said in an email.

Troopers found the vehicle on eastbound I-10 near Hovatter Road. They tried to communicate with the driver who is refusing commands, DPS said. Additional law enforcement resources are being sent to the location.

A hard closure was set for westbound I-10 traffic at milepost 95, according to DPS. Westbound traffic is being taken off the freeway and then re-routed to State Route 85. Motorists can take SR-85 south to westbound Interstate 8.

Eastbound traffic is being taken off the freeway at milepost 31 and re-routed to the old U.S. 60, or Salome Road, DPS said in the email.
