The husband of Arizona House Minority Leader Rep. Rebecca Rios was arrested Tuesday night on suspicion of assaulting his wife, authorities said.

Vandon Jenerette, 47, is facing misdemeanor charges of assault, unlawful imprisonment and preventing cellphone use during an emergency, said Sgt. Mercedes Fortune, a Phoenix police spokeswoman, on Wednesday.

Shortly before 6 p.m. police responded to reports of a family fight at a residence near 32nd Street and Baseline Road. Rios told police that an altercation took place when Jenerette had refused to let her leave the home.

Officers saw injuries that were consistent with Rios’ report of assault, according to Fortune.

In 2014, Rios was elected to represent state District 27, which covers Guadalupe and parts of Laveen, south Phoenix and central Phoenix. She currently serves as the House Democratic leader.

Emails and calls by The Republic requesting an interview were not immediately returned.
