Modern Phoenix Week 2020 was scheduled — and rescheduled — for spring. But the event had to be reimagined due to COVID-19.
Now it will be a “100% virtual format,” according to the event’s website.
“It’s pretty clear that we won’t be able to hold large, private home tours anytime soon,” organizers Alison and Matthew King wrote in an email to those who had purchased tickets for the original event earlier this year.
Modern Phoenix Week is scheduled to kick off Thursday, Oct. 15, and run through Sunday, Oct. 25. Those who purchase a $45 all-access pass can attend the events, which will all take place on Zoom, Twitch and Facebook Live.
While there will not be a home tour this year, ticket holders for the spring 2020 event “will get complimentary early-bird access to tour tickets when we can resume home tours,” according to the Kings’ email.

What to expect at Modern Phoenix Week 2020
Some of the events that were planned for the event’s original dates in May will still happen virtually.
That includes the tour of Hotel Valley Ho in Scottsdale on Oct. 15 from 5:15 p.m. to 7 p.m.
A description for the tour reads: “Join Ace Bailey to explore the architecture and past of this mid-century-modern landmark, a Hollywood hideaway since 1956 and host to stars like Janet Leigh, Bing Crosby, and Natalie Wood.”
The schedule also includes, in part:
- Oct. 15: Virtual Tour of the Valley Ho with a cocktail hour.
- Oct. 15: AZ history happy hour and trivia night.
- Oct. 16: World premiere and sneak peek presale for “Frank Lloyd Wright: Timeless.”
- Oct 17: “Along with Wright,” Eugene Masselink’s designs for the Price family.
- Oct. 17: Meet the Artisans behind Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation’s new product lines.
- Oct. 18: “Research Your Midcentury Home with the Postwar Architecture Task Force of Greater Phoenix.”
A $45 pass can be purchased on Eventbrite, and attendees can register for individual events they’d like to join at www.modernphoenix.net. Those who purchased home tour tickets earlier this year should have received a code for an all-access pass.
Organizers are no longer accepting refunds and hope ticketholders will look at their purchased passes as donations to the local arts community, should they choose to no longer take part.
“A substantial percentage of ticket proceeds … has been earmarked to benefit the local design nonprofits and educational groups,” according to the website.
