What should an underground art gallery look like? That’s for you to decide.
Local nonprofit Artlink is seeking input from the community to help transform a subterranean space at Park Central in midtown Phoenix.
According to a press release, the 20,000 square foot space is the largest project of the “ART+FORM” initiative Artlink and Park Central launched in 2018 with support from the Flinn Foundation and the Virginia G. Charitable Trust.
“The arts community has played a major role in urbanism and development of Central and Downtown Phoenix,” Catrina Kahler, president and CEO of Artlink said in a press release.
“ART+FORM is a progression of how arts can play a role in the development of structures and spaces. As a region, we need to keep extending this progression to keep the arts community-engaged and our built environment beautiful.”

How you can get involved
The community is invited to complete a 10 question survey that will help inform the direction of the project. The survey is currently open and will close late next month.
Questions in the survey include what resources Arizona artists need most at this time to what are the greatest barriers to developing a successful art career in Arizona?
Artlink’s mission for the empty basement is to build community and create space for conversations.
“This project aligns perfectly with the Flinn Foundation’s grant-making mission and history of support for the biosciences and the arts,” Tammy McLeod, the foundation’s president and CEO said in a press release.
“We felt compelled to support Artlink, as this project stands to benefit a community and a larger vision of development and art growing together.”
