A COVID-19 cluster has shut down San Tan Foothills High School until Oct. 21, which means the fall sports teams won’t be playing during this time.
That includes the 3A football team that is coming off a 48-12 loss to second-ranked American Leadership Gilbert North.
It is not known at this time whether ALA Gilbert North will have to quarantine and cancel its game Friday night against Mesa Eastmark. ALA-GN coach and Athletic Director Randy Ricedorff has not responded to messages from The Arizona Republic.
Florence district Superintendent Chris Knutsen said that San Tan Foothills, part of the Florence district, will follow the Pinal County Health Department.
“Per county health department and Arizona administrative code R9-6-361, we are required to close school until 10-21-20,” Knutsen said in an email. “This means activities also, so we are looking to reschedule games.”
San Tan Foothills likely will miss not only Friday’s football game against Safford, but a Nov. 23 game against Florence because it will only have two days to get ready for the game.
