Gilbert Hillcrest Prep has been invited to play in the The Battle Basketball Showcase on Nov. 20-21 at the Allen Event Center in Dallas.

The event is sponsored by Los Angeles Lakers’ sharpshooting wing Danny Green and brand marketing firm Green and Gold Level Sports & Entertainment, according to Forbes.

“We are honored to be a part of this national event and look forward to playing against the best,” Hillcrest Prep CEO Nick Weaver said. “We feel we are one of the top teams in the country and will have a chance too prove it. We are excited for our players to be able to take part, especially with all we have been through with COVID-19 this year.”

The Battle Basketball Showcase will feature six of the nation’s top prep programs with highly touted boys recruits going head-to-head. This includes LeBron James’ son LeBron “Bronny” James of Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth, Calif.) and 6-foot-10 reigning Gatorade National Player of the Year Emoni Bates of Ypsi Prep (Ypsilanti, Mich.).

The junior Bates is already committed to Michigan State.

The event will also have an Elite High School Girls Basketball pool of games. Teams for the girls part of the event have yet to be announced.

“A lot of kids missed out because of the pandemic, especially this summer with AAU events and top 100 camps where they could get some notoriety,” Green said. “Obviously, certain places are more open than others but this is the soonest we could do something where we could give these kids a platform to showcase themselves, especially kids who aren’t the big names like Bronny, Emoni Bates and Amari Bailey.”

The boys games will air on ESPN.
