Lace up those hiking boots this weekend as it might be your last chance to get outside before 100-degree temperatures return next week.

Saturday morning saw a low of 72 degrees, which is six degrees below the normal for this time of year, according to the National Weather Service in Phoenix.

Temperatures will increase more than 20 degrees through Saturday afternoon, with the high settling at just under triple digits at 99 degrees.

The slight cooling is a result of the elevated smoke that escaped into the Valley from the wildfires ravaging multiple states along the West Coast. The hazy conditions shaved a small three to five degrees off of the Phoenix daily average, according to the NWS.

The smoky skies do not have a major impact on the air quality, according to the NWS. The haze also cuts down on the ultraviolet rays, creating perfect conditions for heading outdoors in Phoenix.

Originally, the NWS predicted the haze would last through Sunday. But it has since adjusted the forecast to say hazy conditions may continue through early next week as the fires along the West Coast continue burning.

Sunday will likely set the tone — and temperature — for the first half of the week, with a high of 103 degrees and a low of 81. NWS said this is about five degrees above average.

Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday will follow suit.

The high terrains east of Phoenix were expected to see an isolated thunderstorm on Sunday and Monday.
