The smoke plume from a hay fire that started in a barn in Laveen could be seen for miles on Monday, and fire officials expected the fire to burn into Tuesday.
Phoenix fire crews worked on the southern flank to prevent flames from spreading to homes near 70th and Southern avenues.
Fire officials rotated crews on Monday in an attempt to put out the blaze, and predict firefighters will be on the scene through the night and into the morning.
According to the Phoenix Fire Department, tractors are being used to move the hay and find any remaining hot spots so they can be put out.
The cause of the fire was not immediately clear.
