Authorities are investigating after a Good Samaritan was shot while attempting to stop a burglary in Avondale late Saturday night.

At about 9 p.m. police received reports of shots fired at a residence near 112th Avenue and Garfield Street, said Officer Jaret Redfearn, an Avondale police spokesman. Upon arrival, officers located a man with a gunshot wound.

The victim, a nearby neighbor, was attempting to stop the suspects who were burglarizing the residence when he was shot, Redfearn said.

He was transported to a nearby hospital for non-life threatening injuries and remained in stable condition late Sunday morning.

Redfearn said later, police received reports that a woman was shot at when she was driving in the area at about the same time the man was shot in the burglary incident.

The woman’s vehicle had been shot and she was not injured, he said.

Police are looking for three men who are believed to be suspects in the case. One was described as wearing a blue shirt, the other a black shirt, and the third a red shirt. The men of unknown ages were seen fleeing the area in a white sedan.

No other details were immediately available as the investigation was ongoing.
