Golf enthusiasts and those who just want to be seen are clamoring for tickets to the 2019 Waste Management Phoenix Open in Scottsdale. 

If you want to save money, there are ways to get free or discounted admission. The easiest way is to show up at the start of the week. Admission is free on Jan. 28 and 29.

In addition, attendees 17 and younger who are accompanied by an adult can get in for free throughout the tournament. Oh, to be young again.

General admission tickets range from $45 to $60, depending on the day. Tickets can be purchased at the gate; advance tickets are available by calling 800-745-3000 or online at www.wmphoenixopen.com or www.ticketmaster.com.

Ford Free Days

Admission is free for everyone on Monday and Tuesday, Jan. 28-29, thanks to Phoenix Open sponsor Ford Motors. This is the fourth year the automotive giant has offered free days. Attendees can participate in the closest-to-the-pin tournament to win a Ford Edge ST and supply a local charity with its own new vehicle. 

Safeway & Albertsons

Spend at least $50 on specific items at Safeway or Albertsons grocery stores to get a free ticket. The offer is available until Sunday, Feb. 3. Customers will receive a coupon for a free ticket that they can redeem at wmphoenixopen.com/tickets/general-admission. Among the items to be purchased are Coke and Tyson products and alcoholic beverages from Jack Daniels, Miller Lite, Coors Lite and Ketel One.

Tempe Marketplace & Desert Ridge Marketplace

Hey, big spenders: If you spend $300 or more in one day at Tempe Marketplace or Desert Ridge Marketplace you can receive two tickets to the Open. Receipts can be redeemed at mall management offices. Tickets are valid Jan. 30-Feb. 3. You must be 18 years or older to redeem.

Military veterans and first responders

Military veterans, police officers, firefighters and EMTs can take advantage of Birdies of the Brave freebies. Register online to receive two free tickets to the Open good Jan. 30-Feb. 3. The offer is for active-duty and retired service members. You must show a Department of Defense ID or photo ID along with your ticket voucher at the main entrance. That there is a $1 verification fee per military service member and first responder.
