Desirae Krawczyk, who played collegiately at Arizona State, had her greatest success as a tennis professional at the French Open, where she was double runner-up.
The 26-year-old, teaming with Alexa Guarachi of Chile as the No. 14-seeded team, fell 6-4, 7-5 to No. 2 seed Timea Babos and Kristina Mladenovic on Sunday in Paris. It was Krawczyk’s first Grand Slam final.
Krawczyk and Guarachi won a three-set match in the second round then upset top-seeded Su-Wei Hsieh and Barbora Strycova 6-4, 7-5 in the third round. They won 6-0, 6-4 over the No. 7-seeded team in the quarterfinals and 7-6, 1-6, 6-4 in the semifinals.
Coming off the French Open, Krawczyk will move into the top 30 in the world in doubles as the third highest-ranked American behind Nicole Melichar and Bethanie Mattek-Sands of Phoenix.
