Torkelson now is on the Tigers’ 60-man roster for summer camp, leading into a 60-game major league season beginning with a 30-man roster. He was a first baseman during his three-year ASU career but was drafted as a third baseman.
The Tigers also signed ASU third baseman Gage Workman, their fourth-round draft pick, for a $1 million bonus, well above slot ($571,000).
ASU outfielder Trevor Hauver (third round, New York Yankees) and pitcher R.J. Dabovich (fourth round, San Francisco) have yet to sign. Shortstop Alika Williams (first round, Tampa Bay) signed for $1.85 million, slightly below slot ($1.9 million).
