Sara Hall of Flagstaff ran a personal best Sunday to finish second at the London Marathon, held as an elite race only because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Hall, 37, bounced back from the disappointment of not finishing at the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials in February to run 2:22.01, the sixth fastest marathon for an American woman on a record-eligible course.

Her previous PR (2:22.16) at Berlin in September 2019 elevated her to the No. 6 fastest position all-time for American women, which she improved upon at London.

Kenyans Brigid Kosgei (2:18.58) and Ruth Chepngetich (2:22.05) were first and third at London. American Molly Seidel, second at the Olympic Trials to qualify for the Tokyo Games, was sixth (2:25.13).

Ethiopian Shura Kitata won the men’s winner in 2:05.41.
