The Arizona Department of Public Safety is asking for the public’s help in identifying a second person suspected of being involved in a shooting where a state trooper was ambushed while exiting his unmarked vehicle on Thursday.

“AZDPS detectives are still seeking public assistance identifying the driver & vehicle involved in yesterday’s ambush on a detective in Phoenix,” the department tweeted Friday afternoon along with a brief video clip of a man exiting a silver sedan.

Officials believe he may be driving is a silver 2008 to 2013 Infiniti G37 with custom chrome wheels.

The department said the vehicle pulled up next to the trooper’s car when a 17-year-old boy stepped out and fired at least two shots at the trooper with an “AK-47 pistol.” The trooper and another trooper nearby returned fire. No one was injured.

The boy was ultimately arrested as the driver fled the area. The Arizona Republic is not identifying the teen because he is a minor.

Jennifer Liewer, a spokeswoman for the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office, said the Pinal County Attorney’s Office will handle the boy’s case as the trooper is married to an MCAO prosecutor causing a conflict of interest. She was unable to say whether the teen will be charged as an adult and the Pinal County Attorney’s Office did not respond to inquiries from The Republic Friday.

The department posted another tweet saying that detectives believe the vehicle now has an unknown, permanent license plate that is different from the one captured in the video. Anyone who recognizes the person or the vehicle should call 911 or submit a tip online at azactic.gov.
