Tomas delivers, again

The Diamondbacks secured a key run in the seventh, and it came courtesy of – who else – Yasmany Tomas.

Arizona tied it at 4 after Tomas doubled, scoring Paul Goldschmidt after he walked earlier in the inning. The team called upon Gregor Blanco to pinch-run for Tomas, ending his game. Tomas finished 3-for-10 in the series with five RBIs.

Corbin done after 6

After giving up four runs through four innings, lefty Patrick Corbin settled in to pitch a scoreless final two innings.

Overall, Corbin exited after giving up nine hits, walking one and striking out six.

Left-handed reliever Andrew Chafin replaced Corbin in the seventh, retiring the side in order.

D-Backs trail Mets

The Mets got to Diamondbacks Corbin early, scoring a pair of runs in the first inning.

After a leadoff double by shortstop Jose Reyes, left fielder Michael Conforto launched a homer to left-center to put the Mets up 2-0 – a tough start for Corbin, who ended up throwing 30 pitches in the inning.

But Mets starter Matt Harvey also wasn’t invincible.

Arizona got one run back in the first after center fielder Rey Fuentes, who reached on a triple, scored once right fielder Chris Owings grounded out.

In the third, the Diamondbacks scored two more to go up 3-2 after a two-run homer by third baseman Jake Lamb. The lead, however, was short-lived with Mets center fielder Juan Lagares tying it on a solo shot to left in the fourth before a Jose Reyes double scored another run.

Tomas on a roll vs. Mets

If the Diamondbacks complete a sweep of the Mets Wednesday, don’t be surprised if Tomas is a catalyst.

Tomas has smacked home runs in consecutive games against the Mets and is hitting .366 in 11 career games against New York with six homers and 14 RBIs in that span.

“I feel a lot better right now,” said Tomas through interpreter Ariel Prieto. “I’ve been able to make some adjustments, working every single day, and it’s the reason why I feel really good at home plate right now.”

The tweaks Tomas has made have been mental, he said, as he hasn’t tried to do too much at the plate. His impact lately could also be a result of the experience he’s banked as this is his third season with the Diamondbacks since coming over from Cuba.

“I know it’s probably made him more comfortable year by year,” manager Torey Lovullo said. “The results have been fairly consistent. He’s had some big years, and we want that to continue.”

D-Backs lineup

Reymond Fuentes returns to center field, filling in for the injured A.J. Pollock, and Nick Ahmed moves back down to the eighth spot after hitting second on Tuesday night for the Diamondbacks.

Wednesday’s game

Mets at Diamondbacks

When: 12:40 p.m.

Where: Chase Field (Roof hotline: 602-462-6262).

Pitchers: Diamondbacks LHP Patrick Corbin (3-4, 4.17) vs. Mets RHP Matt Harvey (2-3, 5.63).

TV/Radio: FSAZ/KTAR-AM (620), KHOV-FM (105.1).

Corbin gave up four runs in six innings against the Pirates on Friday, picking up the win in a game the Diamondbacks won 11-4. … It was the sixth time in eight starts Corbin has logged at least six innings. … He has struggled against the Mets in his career, allowing 15 earned runs in 22 1/3 innings in five outings (four starts). … In his first start following a three-day suspension for reportedly not showing up to the ballpark earlier this month, Harvey gave up five runs in five innings against the Brewers. … Harvey’s past three starts have been rough; he’s given up 17 earned runs in 14 2/3 innings, with 13 walks and nine strikeouts. … He’s thrown twice at Chase Field; it was the site of his major league debut in 2012 (5 1/3 innings, no runs), and he gave up just two runs in seven innings in a game in 2015.

Back on the bench

Ron Gardenhire returned to his post as the Diamondbacks’ bench coach Monday after leaving in April to undergo surgery to remove his prostate.

Gardenhire was diagnosed with prostate cancer during spring training.

While he was away, Triple-A Reno manager Jerry Narron served as bench coach and Narron could end up sticking with the team for the rest of the season. For now, though, he’ll remain on hand during the transition as a major league coach before his status is reevaluated in early June.

Narron will be involved in analytics, video scouting and game preparation; during games, he’ll watch the action from the team’s video room.

“We just like having Jerry here,” Lovullo said. “He’s become a part of this team. He’s developed relationships. Several if not all the players have asked how we can figure out how to keep him on board. I felt the same. I felt like he made his way onto this club, and he was a part of us and it’s something that having him around I take great comfort in. I know that the schedule may change a little bit, but I still rely on him in certain areas and I think other people do, too. So I think that’s the reason why he’s here.”

Hitting coach Greg Gross has been the Aces’ interim manager.

Injury update

Outfielder David Peralta remained out of the lineup for a second straight day after exiting Sunday’s game with a tight right glute.

Peralta was available off the bench, like he was Monday – pinch-hitting in the seventh; he flied out to center.

“He’s feeling better,” Lovullo said. “We don’t want him to play catch up. We want him to get ahead of this and when he gets back in the lineup, he’s going to feel as close to 100 percent as possible.”

Short hop

The majority of the team attended the funeral for traveling secretary/equipment manager Roger Riley’s mother before Tuesday’s game.

“To support Roger, to me it was a no-brainer,” Lovullo said. “We’re family around here, and one of our family members is hurting right now and it just makes so much sense. I was really proud of the turnout. It was just about every player, every coach. Unfortunately, a couple couldn’t make it because of routines or prior commitments. But we went there to support one of our brothers, and it made a lot of sense to me. That’s who we are.”
