Diamondbacks center fielder A.J. Pollock is viewing the groin issue that forced him out of Sunday’s game almost as blessing in disguise, a sort of reminder not to take for granted his health in that part of his leg.

“I’m kind of using it as a nice little warning for me to not forget about it, to stay on top of it,” Pollock said Tuesday morning. “I think it’s going to end up being a good thing that I had a little thing going on.”

Pollock was not listed in Tuesday afternoon’s lineup against the Rangers. It’s unclear when he’ll play again, but he did not seem to consider the injury significant.

Still, he said the discomfort was in the same spot as it was last September, when he missed the final 22 games of the season with a left groin strain. He even felt discomfort in a similar manner – running to first while looking at a ball he hit to left-center field.

“I haven’t really done anything for it (this spring) because I just kind of thought it was a thing of the past,” Pollock said. “But it might have been a nice little warning to say ‘Hey, this has got to be part of your routine to have a couple of exercises for the groin to keep that activated.’ But I feel pretty confident about everything.”

Barrett update

Right-hander Jake Barrett said he’s scheduled to throw his first bullpen session of the spring on Friday. He has been delayed by a shoulder issue.

“I just want to get on the mound already,” he said. “I feel like I’m ready.”

Barrett will probably need several bullpen sessions before progressing to facing hitters and eventually to pitching in a game, which means his availability for Opening Day is in doubt.

“I feel like I could be ready by then, but it all depends on what the coaches and training staff want,” he said. “That’s how good my arm feels right now.”

Diamondbacks GM Mike Hazen said last week that the club is not focused on April 2 but rather on keeping Barrett healthy for as much of the season as possible.

Short hop

The Diamondbacks made six roster moves on Tuesday morning. Left-hander Anthony Banda and right-hander Jimmie Sherfy were optioned to Triple-A Reno; third baseman Dawel Lugo was optioned to Double-A Jackson; and right-hander Frank Duncan and lefties Jared Miller and Daniel Gibson were reassigned to minor league camp.

Banda, Miller and Sherfy are regarded as three of the club’s better pitching prospects and Lugo is one of the better position player prospects but none was expected to crack the Opening Day roster.
