Northbound Interstate 17 was shut down for about 90 minutes near Black Canyon City  Wednesday evening after a crash left eight people injured, the Arizona Department of Public Safety said.

The crash, which involved three vehicles, occurred about 7 p.m., DPS said.

Officials said the crash occurred at “the crest of a hill” along I-17. Black Canyon City is located in an area where northbound traffic climbs in altitude along the highway.

Among the injured was a pregnant woman, DPS said.

All eight people were transported to hospitals, with three of them flown to Phoenix-area medical facilities by helicopter, DPS said.

Their injuries ranged from minor to serious but none appeared to be life-threatening, DPS said.

The Arizona Department of Transportation confirmed that the northbound lanes were closed.

According to the Daisy Mountain Fire Department, crews were on the scene of a “first alarm” vehicle accident and motorists could expect significant delays.

ADOT tweeted out the highway was reopened around 9:34 p.m.
