Recent updates showed a decline in new positive COVID-19 cases at Arizona State University, the University of Arizona and Northern Arizona University as of Monday.

Meanwhile, Grand Canyon University continued to see cases rise since resuming in-person classes last month. 

Reports of confirmed COVID-19 cases among Arizona’s three state schools and Grand Canyon University show the current state of COVID-19 at these universities.

ASU: Student cases considered active continue decline

Arizona State University reported 63 new positive cases among students and two new positive cases among employees within the past week.

Data reflects a 2.4% positivity rate among the 83,644 test results collected from students and employees since Aug. 1. A positivity rate of 5% is considered a good benchmark that the spread is under control.

ASU reported a total of 8 known positive cases currently considered active among 12,400 total faculty and staff as of Monday. 

A total of 121 positive cases considered active were reported among the school’s student body of 74,500 as of Monday. 

That number was down from a week ago, when ASU reported 140 active cases among students on Oct. 5.

GCU: Active cases rise from 25 to 70 in a week

Positive cases continue to climb at Grand Canyon University, the university’s latest update shows. 

GCU reports a total of 70 positive COVID-19 cases within the past two weeks, with 66 students and 4 employees. 

The total of active cases within the past two weeks increased to 70 from the 25 reported last week, an increase of 45 cases in a week.

The university reports a total of 88 positive cases in the GCU community since Aug. 1. Of those, 78 are students and 10 are employees, according to the school’s website.

This latest update shows an increase of 49 total cases compared to the total of 39 reported last week.

NAU: Total number of active cases continue to fall

Northern Arizona University reported 79 active cases among its on- and off-campus students as of Oct. 9.

This is a decrease of 48 cases from the 127 cases reported in last week’s update.

NAU reported it had a total of 891 cases out of 13,339 tests since Sept. 2, when it began testing 13% to 14% of its Flagstaff campus every week. That represents a positivity rate of 6.7% since Sept. 2. 

UA: Continues steady decline in confirmed cases

Data shows a steady decrease in positive COVID-19 tests at the University of Arizona.

The university reported a total of 30 new cases within the past 10 days, reflecting a 0.5% positivity rate.

Out of the 837 tests administered Monday just 6 tests returned positive, according to data from the school’s website.

The weekly average of positive cases continues to declined to 4, a decrease of 13 from the 17 reported last Monday.

In-person instruction for classes with 30 or fewer students began Monday at the University of Arizona following downward trends in COVID-19 infection rates over the last several weeks.

The university reported a total of 2,376 positives out of the 42,589 total tests administered, showing a 5.6% positivity rate since Aug. 4.
