Antique Sugar is back with another year of iconic Halloween costumes.

Every October the downtown Phoenix vintage clothing store turns movies, music and pop culture of the past into #31daysofcostumes on Instagram.

Trek through Jurassic Park in John Hammond’s signature white linen button-down and straw hat or Rick-Roll the party with a spot on Rick Astley black jacket and striped shirt. The costumes are simple but they still might help you win Halloween too.

Antique Sugar’s co-owners Sarah Bingham and Annamarie Sanchez have been putting the costumes together for six years, never doing the same one twice.

The celebration is months in the making.

How Antique Sugar comes up with the ideas

“We start going through our inventory really early in the year. We just start making a list of obscure, poplar characters we haven’t used before, anything we can think of,” Sanchez said.

The costumes are just a snapshot of the antique treasures you can find on the clothing racks. Sanchez said they found the spot-on leopard print dress Fran Fine would have worn in “The Nanny”, hidden in the back of the store.

Some costumes have several pieces like Rick Dalton’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” monochrome mustard leather jacket, brown slacks, gold belt and yellow turtleneck. The pieces of each outfit may be different sizes, you can buy the full outfit or parts of it.

“We have a bunch (of costumes) all ready to go but right now we’re still kind of scraping for the last seven or eight. So it’s kind of crunch time right now,” Sanchez said.

In addition to the Halloween celebration, Antique Sugar is also celebrating it’s 10th anniversary this month.
