Left-hander Chaz Montoya pitched 5 2/3 shutout innings and struck out six to lead ASU baseball (10-11) to a 7-0 win over USC Saturday in Los Angeles.

Outfielder Tyler Williams went 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Junior Taylor Lane knocked in a run, while also going 2-for-4.

ASU softball 8, Oregon State 0

Breanna Macha pitched six shutout innings to lead ASU softball (22-8) to an 8-0 win over visiting Oregon State on Saturday.

USC 5, ASU baseball 4

ASU baseball (9-11) rallied to tie the game with a run in the eighth inning, but USC scored on a fielding error in the 11th inning to secure a 5-4 win Friday night in Los Angeles.

Carter Aldrete had two RBIs to lead the Sun Devils at the plate. Starting pitcher Eli Lingos allowed four runs on eight hits in five innings.

ASU: The Sun Devils (9-10, 0-3) were swept at home last week by No. 2 Oregon State, scoring just one run in the series. There were some positives on the pitching side with Eli Lingos working seven innings (six hits, two runs) in Game 1, and Eder Ervies going a season-high 4.2 innings (seven hits, two runs) in Game 3. ASU also was swept by Oregon State to open Pac-12 play last year but stood 14-6 overall after its first 20 games. The Sun Devils lost two of three to USC last season, including 31-9 in the regular-season finale, the most runs allowed in school history. They are playing on the road for the first time since Feb. 26 following a 12-game homestand.

USC: The Trojans (12-7, 2-1 Pac-12) took two of three from Washington State to open Pac-12 play then had a midweek game against UC Irvine rained out. Their strength of schedule is No. 127 (Boyd’s World), while ASU is at No. 17. 2B Brandon Perez (.359), OF Corey Dempster (333), SS Frankie Rios (.328) and 1B Lars Nootbaar (.322) are the hitting leaders. Nootbaar has four home runs and 18 RBIs. Scheduled starting pitchers are Chris Clarke (2-0, 3.47 ERA), Brad Wegman (2-2, 5.06) and Marrick Crouse (2-2, 8.74). Reliever Austin Manning is 1-1 with three saves. Dan Hubbs is in his fifth season as coach. USC was 28-28 last season, also splitting in the Pac-12.

ASU softball

Starting pitcher Breanna Macha allowed one run in six innings to lead ASU softball to a 5-2 win in its first game Wednesday against New Mexico State at Farrington Stadium. Sashel Palacios had two RBIs, including a solo home run, to lead the Devils at the plate. ASU scored three runs in the fifth and sixth innings on bases-loaded walks to secure the victory.

The Sun Devils (21-8) completed a sweep of the doubleheader with a 7-3 win behind three RBIs from Randi Farricker. Dale Ryndak got the win for ASU after going 4 1/3 innings without allowing an earned run.
