It didn’t take Chandler junior wide receiver Kyion Grayes II long to make up his mind during his weekend trip to Columbus about being an Ohio State Buckeye.

The All-Arizona Grayes gave the Buckeyes a commitment to play football there on Sunday.

Earlier in the week, Grayes told The Arizona Republic, “I feel like it’s going to be a great trip, and I really can’t wait to get out there.”

In mid-December, Grayes decommitted from the University of Arizona after head coach Kevin Sumlin was fired

Ohio State had offered him in October. He had that pinned to his Twitter profile page since then.

This commitment doesn’t surprise Chandler coach Rick Garretson, who calls Grayes a “tremendous route runner who knows how to get vertical and makes things happen with the ball in his hands after the catch.”

“He’s been interested in Ohio State for quite some time and felt that’s the right place for him academically and athletically,” Garretson said.

Grayes, 6-foot-1, 180 pounds, helped lead the Wolves to the past two Open Division state championships with his big-play capabilities.

He caught 28 passes for 556 yards and 10 touchdowns in a COVID-reduced 2020 football season.

Garretson said that Grayes is a good blocker and takes pride in developing that skill.
