Firefighters have contained nearly half of the Cellar Fire burning south of Prescott.

According to InciWeb, a government wildfire information system, the wildfire is 47% contained as of Sunday evening.

The fire has been burning since July 14 and has consumed more than 7,500 acres. More than 550 fire-fighting personnel, including seven hotshot crews, continue to battle the blaze.

The fire was only 18% contained as of Sunday morning and was not contained at all as of the middle of last week.

The fire was started by a lightning strike.

Several communities remain in “Ready” status, which means residents have been told to prepare in case an evacuation order is given. These include Crown King, Groom Creek, Indian Creek, Pine Flat, Potato Patch, Walker and Wolf Creek.
