Kyler Murray will have a feather in his cap when he makes his much-anticipated return to his home state of Texas. In advance of the Cardinals’ game at the Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football, Arizona’s second-year quarterback will be going home as the reigning NFC Offensive Player of the Week.

Murray won the honor on Wednesday following his performance Sunday in a 30-10 victory at the New York Jets.

Murray completed 27 of 37 passes (72.9%) for a career-high 380 yards, a touchdown and a passer rating of 103.4. He also ran for 31 yards and a touchdown. His 380 passing yards led the NFL in Week 5 and were also the most passing yards by a Cardinals quarterback in a win since Carson Palmer threw for 419 yards in a 27-14 victory at Jacksonville in 2013.

This is Murray’s second career Offensive Player of the Week honor after he won the award last year following Arizona’s Week 6 win over Atlanta. Murray becomes just the fourth quarterback in franchise history to win multiple Player of the Week honors, joining Kurt Warner, Boomer Esiason and Neil Lomax.

“I’m blessed to be in the position that I’m in,” Murray said Wednesday when asked about returning to the Dallas area in a primetime game. “To be playing in the NFL, obviously, every weekend is a great opportunity. This is another one. Going back home, playing in Dallas, it’s obviously a big game for us on Monday night in front of everybody.

“Obviously, I have to stay composed, play my game, play our game, and execute at a high level in order to win.”

Through five games, Murray has completed 128 of 181 passes for 1,299 yards and eight touchdowns while also rushing for 296 yards and five touchdowns on 41 carries. He is the first quarterback in the Super Bowl era with at least eight passing touchdowns and five rushing touchdowns in the first five games of a season.

Last Sunday was Murray’s fifth career game with both a passing and rushing touchdown and his fourth such performance this season. Only four players in franchise history had more games with both a passing touchdown and rushing touchdown in their career than Murray has in his first 21 career games.

Murray surpassed 5,000 career passing yards (5,021) in last week’s win. Combined with his 840 career rushing yards, Murray now joins Came Newton (5,205 passing yards, 915 rushing yards) as the only players in the NFL history with 5,000 or more passing yards and 800 or more rushing yards in their first 21 career starts.
