A taxi cab collided into an ambulance in Phoenix early Thursday morning.

At 2:00 a.m., officers responded to the area of 2200 East Thomas Road to look into the crash between the cab and ambulance. Officers learned that the taxi collided into the rear of the ambulance, said Sgt. Mercedes Fortune, a public information officer with the Phoenix Police Department.

When both of the vehicles pulled into a parking lot nearby, the taxi driver left his car and walked away. There was a search of the area and he was found a short time later, Sgt. Fortune said.

The ambulance was not transporting anyone, but the driver and passenger complained of minor injures. The cab driver was carrying an adult male who was transported to the hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries, Sgt. Fortune said.

During the investigation, officers noticed that the cab driver showed symptoms of intoxication. The driver was arrested for extreme DUI, Sgt. Fortune said.

The investigation is ongoing.
