A Buckeye man has been arrested for investigation of second-degree murder after his wife was found shot dead on Sunday, according to the Buckeye Police Department.
Kenneth Eckert, 49, has been booked into Maricopa County’s Fourth Avenue Jail on suspicion of fatally shooting his wife, 49-year-old Jennifer Eckert.
Police received a call around 11 a.m. Sunday from a man reporting someone had been shot inside his home on the 19700 block of West Sherman Street in Buckeye.
Officers were directed to a master bedroom and found a woman lying face down on the bed with a single gunshot wound to the head, Buckeye police said.
Officers and Buckeye Fire Department personnel attempted life-saving measures but were unsuccessful. Jennifer Eckert, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The department said officers spoke with Kenneth Eckert but that he “would not provide any information as to what took place” other than saying his wife had been shot.
Eckert is being held on a $750,000 bond and is due in court on May 15.
According to police, the couple moved to Buckeye three months ago and the department has not had any prior contact with them.
An investigation is ongoing. The department is asking anyone with information to call the Buckeye police tip line at 623-349-6411 or email the department at [email protected].
