Maddi Hackbarth and Alynah Torres homered back-to-back Saturday in No. 13 Arizona State softball’s 8-3 win over No. 25 Iowa State.

ASU also beat Portland State 8-0 by run rule at Farrington Stadium, improving to 9-1 overall with Torres and Alli Tatnall hitting consecutive homers. 

Lindsay Lopez (3-0) was the winning pitcher in game 1 and Cielo Meza (3-0) in game 2. Meza struck out nine to surpass 550 for her career, which includes three years at Long Beach State. Allison Royalty pitched the seventh against Iowa State (12-2).

Brittany Holland also homered against Portland.

ASU plays New Mexico for the second time this weekend Sunday and Utah (non-conference) Monday.

Giselle Juarez, No. 2 Oklahoma softball holds off No. 13 ASU

Former Arizona State softball pitcher Giselle Juarez pitched six innings for No. 2 Oklahoma on Friday night in a 5-3 win over No. 13 Arizona State.

The Sooners (9-0) fell behind 1-0 in the third on a home run by Makenna Harper then responded with two in the fourth and three in the seventh. 

ASU (7-1) scored more runs off Juarez in the seventh on RBI hits by DeNea Chatman and Harper before Shannon Saile stopped the rally in relief on the mound.

“I told the team at the end of the game that that’s who we are,” ASU coach Trisha Ford said. “We are going to fight and not make people feel comfortable. There’s lot of people around here that know that we don’t care how much we’re down, what inning it is, we have a shot.”

Earlier Friday, four Sun Devils homered in a 13-1 run rule win over New Mexico. Lindsay Lopez (2-0) was the winning pitcher. Kindra Hackbarth picked up her 200th career hit.

Allison Royalty (3-1) threw 6 1/3 innings against Oklahoma followed by Cielo Meza.

ASU continues at Farrington Stadium against Portland State and Iowa State on Saturday, New Mexico on Sunday and Utah (non-conference) on Monday.
