The Storytellers Project helps people learn to tell powerful, moving stories.

The Arizona Storytellers Project show planned for Tuesday has been rescheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 30. All tickets purchased for the show will be honored on future date. Those who cannot attend new date can email [email protected] to arrange redeeming their tickets for a future show. The mission statement of the Storytellers Project is to serve and reflect our community while developing empathy among its members. We are adjusting our show date to ensure we can live up to these goals safely.

Our lives are shaped by our experiences. And sometimes, things don’t always go as planned. Even during the toughest of times, life goes on and while learning to move forward in these circumstances can be difficult, sometimes it’s the only thing to do.

This month’s Arizona Storytellers Project event will focus on the topic of life and death. On Wednesday, Aug. 30 at 7 p.m. at Crescent Ballroom, five members of the community will share live first-person narratives discussing beginnings, endings and life’s gifts.

Audiences will hear stories about life experiences, overcoming adversity, finding growth in loss and more.

John Countryman will talk about his new beginning when his life took a turn after substance abuse. He’ll explain how he went from being the “good kid” to finding himself getting into more and more trouble.

Desiree Garcia will share with us about how her brother donated his organs and how his death has helped shape her identity.

“I dedicated the past 12 years of my life to raise awareness for organ and tissue donation. Before donation, my life was normal. My brother was here with me and the words ‘organ donation’ were in no way part of our vocabulary. Now, those words have become part of my life.”

Like Garcia, Lisbeth Congiusti had to learn how to handle life after her brother’s death. Telling her story gives her strength and she hopes sharing it will help others facing adversity. She’ll talk about how she chose to “live life to the fullest” after her brother’s passing, and soon after, her husband’s health scares.

We hope you’ll join us for a night of celebrating life’s starts and stops.
